U.S. District Judge David D. Dowd, Jr, was bound by the jury decision in July that Donna Moonda receive a life sentence for the murder-for-hire conviction. Jurors rejected the death penalty.
Damian Ray Bradford, 26, testified during the month-long trial that he shot and killed the doctor in what was supposed to look like a random highway robbery because she promised him a share of her husband's estate.
Bradford was sentenced to 17.5 years in prison after becoming the key prosecution witness in the case.
