FDA approves combination drug for symptomatic BPH

Philadelphia-Jalyn, a single-capsule combination of dutasteride and tamsulosin, has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of BPH in men with an enlarged prostate. In a clinical study of nearly 5,000 men, the combination of these two agents significantly improved BPH symptoms compared to either medicine taken alone. The combination therapy offers two mechanisms of action to provide symptom improvement and the ability to shrink the prostate over a sustained time, according to GlaxoSmithKline. Reported adverse effects were consistent with the known effects of the individual drugs.
