AUA has established the Department of Reimbursement and Regulatory Affairs to more effectively target resources and advocacy efforts for its members. Nancy K. Edwards, currently AUA reimbursement systems project manager, will become its director.

The new department will expand its purview from government regulatory and reimbursement matters to include third-party payor reimbursement and coverage issues. Responsibility for this agenda falls to Edwards, who will continue to serve as primary staff for AUA's Coding & Reimbursement and Carrier Advisory Committees; coordinate with the Health Policy Council and Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Committee; educate association leaders and members about reimbursement policy and regulatory issues; manage daily operations of the department; and develop a program to help AUA achieve its goals in this area.

Prior to joining AUA in 2005, Edwards worked for the American Medical Association, the Johns Hopkins University, and PriceWaterhouseCoopers in regulatory affairs, coding, reimbursement, and documentation.
