Practices should discuss meaningful use with their EHR vendor and determine if they are a certified vendor (CEHRT). Start with focusing on these six specific areas to respond to software changes:
1. patient health information security: risk analysis/security updates
2. computerized physician order entry and e-prescribing
3. CEHRT for patient data and
for interoperability
4. patient-centric engagement (education, communication, and access)
5. medication
6. public health and clinical data registry guidelines.
The AUA said it is committed to assisting members with meaningful use and other federal quality reporting requirements, and CMS also has a number of resources on its website to help providers better understand the meaningful use program.
“Starting early and with a specific plan, along with tapping CMS resources and partnering with appropriate EHR vendors, will drive successful change and adoption of Stage 3 meaningful use,” according to the AUA.
