J. Stuart Wolf, MD, will serve as the first chair of the AUA’s newly created Science & Quality (S&Q) Council, the association announced.

Dr. Wolf currently holds the position of chair for the AUA’s Practice Guideline Committee.

The S&Q Council will provide dedicated staff, resources, and physician oversight to data projects, guideline initiatives, and quality activities, the AUA said. The S&Q Council chair will work collaboratively with the Health Policy Council chair.

“During this time of transformation, there is no better person to lead the Science & Quality Council than Dr. Wolf,” said AUA President Pramond Sogani, MD. “He is a proven leader with extensive knowledge of science and quality matters as well as evidence-based medicine, and has the ability to bring people together to accomplish any task.”

This includes developing, disseminating, and implementing clinical data registries, evidence-based guidelines, patient safety and quality improvement initiatives, physician performance measures, and white papers. These accomplishments will be attained through his support and oversight of the following S&Q Council committees and work group: Data Committee, Practice Guidelines Committee, Quality Improvement & Patient Safety Committee, and the Electronic Medical Records Coordination Work Group.

Since becoming an AUA member in 1998, Dr. Wolf has served as both chair and vice chair of the AUA Practice Guideline Committee as both chair and vice chair and served as a member on the AUA Health Policy Council, Public Media Committee, and Quality Improvement & Patient Safety Committee as well as a consultant to the Data Committee.
