Murali Ankem, MD, has been named chair of urology at the University of Louisville in Louisville, KY, effective Oct. 1.
Dr. Ankem is currently director of minimally invasive surgery in the department of urology at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Brunswick, NJ.
"Dr. Ankem is a skilled clinician and respected teacher," said Edward Halperin, MD, dean of the University of Louisville School of Medicine. "He is charged with fostering our urology residency program, developing our urologic cancer services, and expanding the department. I have great confidence in him."
Dr. Ankem completed his residency at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He was a fellow in urology at Monash Medical Center in Melbourne, Australia, and in endourology and laparoscopy at the University of Wisconsin Medical School, Madison.
Prior to joining the faculty at UMDNJ, Dr. Ankem was an assistant professor of urology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans, as well as chief of urology services at Overton Brooks Medical Center.
