Christopher Kane, MD, has been named the inaugural holder of the C. Lowell and JoEllen Parsons Endowed Chair in Urology at the University of California, San Diego.

UC San Diego said the $2.5 million endowed faculty chair will enable Dr. Kane to recruit world-class talent and to support novel research and cancer treatment and prevention programs at the UC San Diego Health System.

"This endowed chair acknowledges Dr. Kane, a pioneering surgeon, who will uphold Dr. Parson’s legacy as a caring clinician and a living example of game-changing translational research," said Mark A. Talamini, MD, of the department of surgery at UC San Diego Health System. "The Parsons Endowed Chair in Urology represents a tremendous gift to and investment in UC San Diego."

The endowed chair honors C. Lowell Parsons, MD, professor of surgery with the UC San Diego School of Medicine, who has been a faculty member since 1977.

Dr. Kane is an expert in robot-assisted prostatectomy, open and laparoscopic kidney cancer surgery, and bladder and testis cancer surgery. He is currently co-chair of the National Cancer Institute task force on kidney cancer.
