Alan Partin, MD, PhD, is the new director of the Johns Hopkins department of urology and the Brady Urological Institute, as well as the new urologist in chief of The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
He succeeds Patrick Walsh, MD, who will remain on the urology faculty while devoting his full-time work to patient care, surgery, and research. Dr. Walsh led the department for 3 decades.
Dr. Partin is a leading investigator in the early detection and treatment of prostate cancer and is also widely known for his role in developing the Partin tables, which provide prostate cancer patients with an accurate prediction of their likelihood of being cured.
