Dr. Uzzo named chairman of surgery at Fox Chase Cancer Center

Robert G. Uzzo, MD, has been named chairman of the department of surgery at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia.

A leader in the field of urologic oncology, Dr. Uzzo is also co-leader of one of Fox Chase’s newest research initiatives-the Keystone Program in Personalized Kidney Cancer Therapy.

Dr. Uzzo’s interests focus on treatment for kidney, prostate, testicular, and bladder cancer and procedures for urinary diversion. He is skilled in minimally invasive procedures, including laparoscopic and robotic surgery for kidney, prostate, and bladder cancers.

“Dr. Uzzo has articulated an ambitious goal of aggressively growing Fox Chase’s department of surgery to be able to offer advanced and compassionate care to more cancer patients,” said Michael V. Seiden, MD, PhD, president and CEO of Fox Chase. “Under his guidance, the department anticipates building on its reputation as a national leader in incorporating leading-edge science and emerging technologies into the surgical management of cancer patients.”

In 2003, Dr. Uzzo was promoted from associate member to member with tenure in Fox Chase’s division of medical science. In 2007, he was promoted to vice chairman of the department of surgical oncology and served as acting chair of the department from January 2008 to the present.
