App combines patient health data, secure Web access for physicians

New York-weShare is a new Web and smartphone application designed to improve treatment, decision making, and communication between patients and urologists, according to Symptelligence Medical Informatics. Patients use the app to generate a personal “weScore” (as shown in photo) prior to visiting their urologist. The weScore quantifies the patient’s urinary health through the combination of patient responses to a proprietary questionnaire, a 24-hour urination diary, the AUA Symptom Score, and other standardized scoring methods. The weShare patient data is automatically available for physicians to view both a Physician and Admin Portal online via a secure login. The app, the product of a new distribution partnership between Symptelligence Medical Informatics and LABORIE, was launched at the AUA annual meeting in Orlando, FL.

Clinical use intitiated for early-stage prostate cancer prognostic test

Cambridge, MA-Metamark Genetics, Inc. has initiated clinical use of its ProMark prognostic test to help guide the medical management of patients with early-stage prostate cancer. The test measures the amount of specific protein biomarkers obtained by needle biopsy from regions of prostate tissue where the biomarkers are altered during tumor formation. These “regions of interest” are rendered as intact, paraffin-embedded tissue sections. Quantitative measurements of the biomarkers are then determined by means of imaging technology that is digitized and fully automated. At the recent American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting in Chicago, results from a clinical validation study found that ProMark achieved its primary endpoint by accurately differentiating between aggressive and non-aggressive forms of prostate cancer at early stages of disease.
