Agoura Hills, CA-Caldera Medical's Ascend Pelvic Floor Repair System is a novel treatment for pelvic organ prolapse that recently received FDA approval. The device provides apical support from the anterior chamber using a patented surgical method and CentraSoft mesh technology that conforms to the patient's anatomy. The lightweight, macroporous, monofilament, polypropylene mesh is positioned and implanted with a set of reusable introducers, available separately. According to Caldera, Ascend can be used to simultaneously repair anterior and apical defects, reducing the potential for complications and costs.

Computer-guided interactive simulator hones HoLEP skills

Santa Clara, CA-A new computer-guided, interactive training simulator from Lumenis guides physicians in learning holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) skills for treating BPH. Practicing the skills enables the user to attain a standard level of competence prior to live surgical activity, and to review and maintain it thereafter. The device replicates use of the manufacturer's VersaPulse PowerSuite laser with the VersaCut Morcellator system.
