Agoura Hills, CA-Caldera Medical's Ascend Pelvic Floor Repair System is a novel treatment for pelvic organ prolapse that recently received FDA approval. The device provides apical support from the anterior chamber using a patented surgical method and CentraSoft mesh technology that conforms to the patient's anatomy. The lightweight, macroporous, monofilament, polypropylene mesh is positioned and implanted with a set of reusable introducers, available separately. According to Caldera, Ascend can be used to simultaneously repair anterior and apical defects, reducing the potential for complications and costs.

Computer-guided interactive simulator hones HoLEP skills

Santa Clara, CA-A new computer-guided, interactive training simulator from Lumenis guides physicians in learning holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) skills for treating BPH. Practicing the skills enables the user to attain a standard level of competence prior to live surgical activity, and to review and maintain it thereafter.
