Surgical prep solution receives FDA approval

St. Paul, MN-3M has received FDA approval for its DuraPrep Surgical Solution, a formulation of iodine povacrylex and isopropyl alcohol used for preoperative skin preparation. The solution dries to a water-resistant film that resists removal by blood and irrigating solutions and provides both immediate and durable antimicrobial activity after blood and saline exposure up to 24 hours. It also enhances the persistent effects of iodine and improves drape adhesion during surgery, according to the manufacturer.
