Uroplasty, Inc., has announced that several payers will cover posterior tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS) using the company’s Urgent PC Neuromodulation System for the treatment of overactive bladder and associated symptoms.

Private payers United Healthcare and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield (upstate New York) initiated coverage of PTNS, effective April 1 and March 17, respectively.

In addition, CIGNA Government Services, the new Medicare carrier for Kentucky, will cover PTNS treatments effective May 1, and NHIC Corp., the Medicare carrier for Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont, will cover treatments as of May 22.

The decisions mean that PTNS treatments will be available to approximately 31 million Medicare beneficiaries.
