Uropath LLC, a provider of group practice-owned urologic pathology laboratories, has received positive results from audits conducted by the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Inspector General.
During 2005, the OIG conducted audits of laboratory services claimed by practices that own pathology laboratories in each operational location that Uropath serves. A Medicare Program Safeguard Contractor reviewed medical records to determine whether pathology services provided were reasonable, medically necessary, and supported by adequate documentation.
In all of the reports, a contractor determined that the practice’s claims for pathology services complied with Medicare medical necessity and documentation requirements, Uropath said. None of the audits contained any reports of deficiencies, recommendations, or any other adverse findings.
“Despite baseless accusations from competitors, it is now clear that Uropath and its physician group practices provide superior anatomic pathology services that are 100% compliant with all applicable law and best practices in the industry,” said Ken Flowers of Uropath.
The company serves more than 450 urologists in more than 50 practices across 17 states.
