The University of Wisconsin, Madison has announced formation of the department of urology in the School of Medicine and Public Health, effective July 1.

The University of Wisconsin, Madison has announced formation of the department of urology in the School of Medicine and PublicHealth, effective July 1.

Stephen Y. Nakada, MD, has been appointed founding chairman of the department. He currently is chair of the division ofurology within the department of surgery. The division currently has 14 faculty, numerous researchers, and more than $3million in National Institutes of Health research grants.

"Urology at the University of Wisconsin has shown dramatic progress in clinical, academic, and research fronts since 2000,"Dr. Nakada told Urology Times. "Becoming a department at a university with the depth and breadth as the one in Madison setsthe table for becoming a top institution nationally."
