“We can all learn and collaborate from each other, that way we can continue to provide really great care for our patients,” says Mary W. Dunn, MSN, NP-C, OCN, RN.
In this interview, Mary W. Dunn, MSN, NP-C, OCN, RN, discusses why medical conferences such as the American Urologic Association (AUA) Annual Meeting are important for advanced practice providers (APPs). Dunn is a urologic nurse practitioner at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
Video Transcript:
I think it's really important for APPs in particular to continue to come to conferences, like the AUA. I think the AUA has done a really nice job over the years in including APPs giving talks, running sessions, we have a whole session Saturday and Sunday for APPs because there's a lot of us now, and we are part of the care team–integral parts of the care team. And I think the urology community has really done a nice job of embracing that. I think the more that APPs are involved in things like this, and continuing their own education, because everyone practices differently. I'm in academic medicine, whereas a community practice APP might be doing things a little bit differently. We can all learn and collaborate from each other, that way we can continue to provide really great care for our patients.
