Urology Times writer Penny Allen has won a 2010 AUA Excellence in Urology Health Reporting Award.

Allen, a frequent contributor to Urology Times, won the top prize in the competition’s trade journalism category for her article, "Abuse and IC: Is there a connection worth examining?" (April 1, 2009, page 1). The article discusses controversial study data linking interstitial cystitis with physical and sexual abuse and examines whether the data are diverting attention away from medical treatment and research.

The Excellence in Urology Health Reporting Awards are designed to honor journalists for responsible, informative reporting on health topics in urology. Allen received her award at the recently concluded AUA annual meeting in San Francisco.
