Dr. Miller: “No limits” to what HoLEP can offer appropriate patients with BPH

The data were presented at the recent American Urological Association Annual Meeting.

"We really aimed to affect 3 different contraindications and instead achieved retirement of the entire policy, which, we think, really opens up this wonderful technology to literally hundreds of thousands more patients across the country," says Arpeet Shah, MD.

“Even though there [are] many therapies that one can do, it's not a sign of anything ominous for most men,” says Kevin T. McVary, MD, FACS.

The therapy, known as Autologous Muscle Derived Cells for Urinary Sphincter Repair (iltamiocel), involves a medical procedure in which a participant’s own muscle cells are collected, processed, and then injected into the tissues of the urinary passage.

Data showed that treatment with radical prostatectomy was associated with worse urinary incontinence but not worse sexual function compared with other treatment options, regardless of cancer risk.
