Justin Dubin, MD, discussed how patients' growing trust in digital tools could be leveraged to support lifestyle changes and improve health outcomes.
Artificial intelligence (AI) may soon play a pivotal role in predicting men's health risks, which could help urologists motivate patients to take action, according to Justin Dubin, MD.
In a recent interview with Urology Times®, Dubin discussed how patients' growing trust in digital tools could be leveraged to support lifestyle changes and improve health outcomes.
Dubin explained, “While [AI] is a robot and there are risks, I do think that some people just inherently happen to believe it more than if I talk to you or talk to a patient. If I can use that background and say, “Hey, listen, I'm working with you. We're using AI together,” this can be a little bit more convincing for education and motivation. I think we have a real opportunity to help a lot of people.”
Dubin is a men’s health expert at Memorial Healthcare System in Florida.
Specifically, Dubin acknowledged the potential use for AI in this capacity in regard to counseling on erectile dysfunction. For example, AI algorithms could soon be used to determine a man’s risk for ED in the future based on patient-specific characteristics. This risk score could then be used to educate patients on how they can improve and preserve their erectile function by modifying their lifestyle.
“[By] educating them that taking care of themselves now will improve their sexual health in the future, as well as now, I think we have a real opportunity to change a lot of men's men's lives and their partners lives,” Dubin concluded.
