Axena Health said it plans to provide additional educational resources to Leva users going forward.

Among the content is additional information on types of urinary incontinence, ways to control urgency, methods of managing constipation, and frequently asked questions about a healthy bladder. As part of a collaboration between Mayo Clinic and Axena Health, the company said it plans to provide additional educational resources to Leva users going forward.

“This is an exciting step forward in our mission to redefine the standard of care for women’s pelvic health,” said Randy Pritchard, CEO of Axena Health in the news release. “Mayo Clinic is one of the most trusted names in health care—and integrating their educational expertise into our Leva System enhances our ability to serve patients with clinically grounded and evidence-based resources they can trust. We are grateful for their support and ongoing collaboration to deliver better patient outcomes.”

The Leva Pelvic Health System is FDA-cleared for the treatment of women with stress, urgency, and mixed urinary incontinence as well as in the first-line treatment of patients with chronic fecal incontinence. The system works by using real-time visualization of the patients’ pelvic movement to guide pelvic floor muscle training. The program is designed to be used for just 5 minutes per day and is available through prescription only. The systemcombines a small FDA-cleared vaginal motion sensor with integrated software to provide “real-time visualization of pelvic movement, progress tracking, and active physician involvement,” according to the company.

“A critical part of our Leva therapy is ensuring women feel educated and supported during their treatment,” said Mandy Pulliam, MD, FACOG, Chief Medical Officer of Axena Health. “By enhancing our existing educational resources in the Leva app with Mayo Clinic’s content, we are empowering women to better understand their condition and actively engage in their care.”

Research Points to Cost Savings with Leva

Earlier this year, a Budget Impact Model published in Journal of Medical Economics revealed an average $1.07 per-member-per-month cost savings for health plans when using the Leva system as first-line therapy for female urinary incontinence vs current clinical practice (CCP).2,3

For the study, investigators evaluated 24-month health plan costs related to treating urinary incontinence in adult women receiving CCP vs the Leva system. They reported a total estimated 24-month cost per treated patient of $10,447 with Leva vs $11,267 without Leva. This translated to a total projected savings of more than $25.7 million over 24 months.

“This analysis confirms what we have long believed —that the Leva Pelvic Health System offers not only a highly effective first-line treatment for urinary incontinence, but also meaningful cost savings for payers,” Pulliam said in a news release about the study. “UI can place a heavy financial and clinical burden on health plans when women are not being treated with effective first-line treatment and being escalated to more invasive and costly treatment options. Leva’s ability to deliver better patient outcomes while lowering healthcare costs is a significant step forward.”2
