Beyond clinical metrics, Pezzella praised the device’s user-friendly, sophisticated design.

In a recent interview, Andrea Pezzella, MD, URPS, FACOG, of Southern Urogynecology Wellness & Aesthetics in West Columbia, South Carolina, shared insights on the newly FDA-approved Neuspera integrated sacral neuromodulation (SNM) device, highlighting its significance in the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB) and urgency urinary incontinence (UUI). Pezzella emphasized that she is inclined to offer this therapy to any patient who seeks consultation for OAB, underscoring its broad applicability and potential to expand therapeutic options for a wide range of patients, especially women. She said she believes the Neuspera device marks a new generation of SNM that is more accessible and appealing.

Pezzella noted the importance of long-term outcomes, particularly safety, efficacy, and patient satisfaction, in evaluating the device's role in widespread adoption. Although phase 2 of the SANS-UUI trial is still ongoing and expected to complete in December 2026, she stressed that the ultimate goal is to achieve dry outcomes for patients, which has historically been challenging in UUI management.

Beyond clinical metrics, Pezzella praised the device’s user-friendly, sophisticated design, which minimizes patient discomfort, reduces surgical risks, and addresses cosmetic concerns by eliminating the need for a visible implanted battery. She described Neuspera as a "smarter alternative" in UUI therapy.

In closing, Pezzella expressed excitement about integrating Neuspera into her practice and participating in its clinical research. She is optimistic about its potential to significantly expand the SNM market and improve care for a population that remains underserved. She views this innovation as a catalyst for future advancements in neuromodulation, helping the field evolve and ultimately benefiting more patients.
