"We really aimed to affect 3 different contraindications and instead achieved retirement of the entire policy, which, we think, really opens up this wonderful technology to literally hundreds of thousands more patients across the country," says Arpeet Shah, MD.

The data were presented at the recent American Urological Association Annual Meeting.

"We looked at people who were in the intermediate-risk zone, and we found that our calculator did do a better job of helping some of those men avoid unnecessary biopsies," says Adam B. Murphy, MD, MBA, MSCI.

Researchers sought to understand if a lack of cancer progression as monitored by radiography could substitute overall survival as a metric for metastatic prostate cancer clinical trials.
