Brooke Edwards, MD, highlights key takeaways from her LUGPA 2025 session, "Transforming your ASC."

At the 2025 LUGPA Annual Meeting, Brooke Edwards, MD, took part in a session titled, “Transforming your ASC.” In an interview with Urology Times®, Edwards offered practical advice on data collection and building patient confidence in the safety and quality of care in this setting.

Edwards is the chief medical officer of the Urology Group in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Edwards began the discussion by highlighting the importance of collecting data to understand both the efficiencies and inefficiencies of the practice. She also stressed the importance of communication in helping patients build confidence in procedures done in the ASC setting.

“Communication and patient education are the 2 things, and those go hand in hand. Having your full team—physicians, providers, APPs, all the above—being able to speak consistently and giving the same message that we're providing high quality care with good technology in a setting that's usually urology focused, I think sharing that message consistently is key,” Edwards explained.

She also emphasized the critical role of patient education, noting that patients begin to feel more comfortable when they understand what can be expected throughout the entire journey of a procedure.
