Shaakir Hasan, DO, New York Proton Center, discusses socioeconomic characteristics associated with the diagnosis and management of bladder cancer. Hasan was the lead author on a research paper shared during the 2021 Genitourinary Cancers Symposium that focused on disparities in bladder cancer. Hasan and his coauthors wrote in their conclusion, "In the largest study of its kind, we report that several socioeconomic, racial, and gender factors are associated with the diagnosis of bladder cancer at a later stage, as well as the use of less cancer-directed treatments” (J Clin Oncol 39, 2021 (suppl 6; abstr 403). doi: 10.1200/JCO.2021.39.6_suppl.403).
